We're so excited about welcoming Raquel & The Professor to the Bermondsey Yard Cafe this coming Friday. Based in Barcelona this alternative collaboration has formulated over the years, on opposite sides of the globe, finally brought together by the wings of change and the circle of life. Raquel & The Professor began as a challenge between Rachel Reid and Mauricio Belalcazar to write an album in 28 days. They succeeded in completing 16 tracks within that timescale and the band was given the kiss of life.

Rachel was born in Birmingham, UK. With a huge Motown and reggae influence as a child, she has been writing poetry since she can remember. Her love of the written word within a musical composition has served as her main inspiration to bring her poetry to lyrical format. She has worked with various producers over the years for private projects and has been in countless musical theatre shows at the Hippodrome, The Rep Theatre and more.

Columbian-born Mauricio started playing drums at the age fof 11. At 15, he picked up his first guitar and at 19 he was awarded a scholarship in The Conservatory, Columbia specializing in classic guitar. Since then he has played base or guitar in many bands in both Columbia and Spain.

Together, they bring you an eclectic mix that will have you crying, laughing, dancing, singing and will definitely leave you with something to think about, all in one performance.
